Description: Toni and Trick met a couple of years ago in the streets of Washington DC. They talked for all of an hour or so, switched email addresses, and departed into the vague, dim mist of forgotten passings. While cleaning out his room this year, Toni found Trick’s info and emailed him from his small town in Germany. After only a couple exchanges he was making plans to come over to play together. Now for October to December of 2011 they are about to hit the streets, the venues, the coffeeshops and whereever there are people who have ears…

Val Kinzler with Liz Taub on violin

Title: Val Kinzler with Liz Taub on violin
Location: Gizzis 16 West 8th St bet 5th Ave and McDougal
Link out: Click here
Description: Award winning singer/songwriter Val Kinzler (aka Valkyrie) doubles on piano and guitar and sings in a style reminiscent of Janis Joplin and Grace Slick.
Inspired by the blues, Kinzler draws from an eclectic array of society’s war torn heroes and working class zeros granting them poetic immortality in a razor heart edged Valhalla.
East Third Street, (produced by Genya Raven) heralds the downfall of an aging beauty queen turned wino. In the Alleyways of Love, a sanitation worker falls in love with a working girl while he’s picking up the garbage. Hence, one man’s trash is another one’s treasure. On the original track of Alleyways, Hilly Kristal (CBGB’s) played the voice of the sanitation worker!
Genya Raven sang background vocals with Val on the East Third Street CD which gives these well crafted songs an early rock and roll girl group feel.

Description: Coming from a large extended family with deep roots in Hawai’i, I was surrounded by lu’au music, kachi-kachi dancing, Japanese bon dances, handsome local guys singing and playing their guitars and my aunties strumming their ukes and singing old songs.

I reveled in walking alone in Nature or playing piano and singing in empty, stain-glassed churches – just wailing in the dark, coloured light!
